I perceive my life as a journey and that every year will bring something new to me in becoming a stronger artist. Through photography I have the ability to capture what I feel has moved me or has had an impact on my journey. I believe the most important factor to my artistic process is to capture a moment accurately to its true feeling. I am a photographer of the digital world and believe that the capabilities of expression are endless. Digital manipulation is a great attribute to the artist expression. Yet I still believe that analog photography and the power of a single image can be more gratifying than digital tweaking. It is the potential of digital processes that drives me to create great imagery to share with my viewers.
I like to create imagery that is satisfying to the eye so that the viewer can reach a level of appreciation equal to actually being present in that environment. It is my mission as a photographer to capture interesting compositions in combination with a beautiful light that will attract the viewer’s eye and which will allow them to let go of their daily lives.
Photography has been a passion of mine for over 6 years and I feel have developed into strong artist. I have studied digital and analog photography at Johnson State College from 2004-2009. I spent 3 years as a lab monitor in JSC digital lab working with high end Epson ink-jet printers and scanners. As a lab monitor I assisted students with any problems they ran into. I found satisfaction in helping students and faculty by meeting or exceeding their expectations of a print or scan.
At JSC I took on many challenging experiences. I worked as a digital editor of a traveling photography exhibit: Time Well Spent- Portraits of Elders, produced entirely by JSC students. Using tungsten studio lighting, I photographed senior portraits for the 2007 JSC graduating class year book. I have photographed various sports such as lacrosse, rugby, skiing, snowboarding and backpacking. I always make room for my camera when backpacking through the Green Mountains, where I have captured breath taking views from Vermont’s Long Trail. I'm also experienced in photographing performing arts such as dance and music.
I am a recent graduate of Johnson State College (2009). I recieved my degree as a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a concentration of photography and sculpture. Through the arts I have met many artists of different mediums, all of which have affected my journey as an artist.
For my BFA senior thesis exhibition I documented various artist’s studios by creating interior panoramic digital photographs. This is a series that I will continue to improve and expand upon throughout my life. The details of individual artist's spaces inspire me.
